When my son, Blake’s, 6th birthday was approaching, we brainstormed party ideas and my husband had the genius thought to host a Nerf Gun Battle. As soon as we mentioned it to Blake, he was on board. We already had quite a stash of Nerf guns for some reason. He had at least 10, and got even more as gifts at his party. We used large cardboard boxes for bunkers. I wanted to use Nerf blue and orange on all of them, but Blake was insistent that we use some real camouflage colors too. My husband cut some windows in the boxes and used dows to stake them into the ground. We set up a table of weapon options, safety glasses, of course, and handkerchiefs for team colors. The rules for the battle were posted and discussed. Capture the flag began! The kids had so much fun, even though it […]
A visit to Maryland is not complete without a photography session with Diya! She might be one of my most loyal clients. 🙂 This is the fifth time I have photographed her. When her mom had the idea to visit the University of Maryland, College Park for the session to pay homage to their Alma Mater, I was excited! She rented a beautiful mermaid gown for Diya and it couldn’t have fit more perfectly. This was the first time I had photographed at the campus and it didn’t disappoint. I loved capturing the architecture on this gorgeous evening. Diya has become a pro in front of the camera and it ended up being one of my favorite sessions from my visit in Maryland. The icing on the cake was we made sure to head to the fountain where Diya’s parents got engaged.
While swinging in to visit one of my dear friends in Maryland, I had to capture a few quick photos of her Irish twins! Cameron and Connor are about 11 months apart in age and full of energy! It was so great seeing them, even if it was only for a super short visit. As you can imagine with two boys so close in age, they are very funny and feed off of one another with their silliness. I photographed both of these boys for their newborn photos as well as Cameron’s first birthday photos. I cannot believe how much they’ve grown! Time flies! I hope their mama enjoys a few quick snaps.
I was so excited to photograph the Simpers family while I was in Maryland! It was my first time meeting Tommy and he was so cute and so sweet! Those light eyes just sucked me in! They were my first session of five on Sunday, so it was a great start to the day. We met at Lake Elkhorn in Columbia, Maryland at 8am to get an early start. I always lean towards the more candid shots as my favorite during a family session. And that’s no different here. I loved seeing Tommy’s face light up with laughs and giggles when Jeff and Sarah tickled him or made silly faces. That’s what family is all about and that’s what I love capturing! I loved their color scheme of navy. It really complimented the beauty and nature of the lake.
It was so much fun to head back to Maryland to visit with family and, of course, fit in some sessions with old clients (and new!) I have photographed the Long family a few times through the years, including one of my first attempts at a photo session when Karson was just a few months old in 2012. He and my son are birthday buddies, born on the same exact day! They attended their first year of preschool together before we moved away. It’s always exciting to see this sweet family again, especially now that they’ve added two more kiddos along the way. With only visiting for 4 days and the meteorologists calling for some nasty storms on Saturday, I switched most sessions to fit 5 in on Sunday! It was a busy day, but so worth it! Charleston is definitely a photographer’s dream location, but Maryland has some gorgeous […]
THE. MOST. EPIC. HARRY POTTER. PARTY. …EVER! The Paynes know how to throw a birthday party!! Merritt is one of Raegan’s friend’s at school and she has become full-on HP obsessed this year. I can’t blame her. Personally, I, too, am obsessed (in fact, when my husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary…he surprised me with a trip to Harry Potter World!) So as Merritt’s mom started talking about her plans for this party, there was no doubt it needed to be documented and I couldn’t wait to capture all the amazing details. There were floating candlesticks in the Great Hall, flying letters being delivered by owls, Winged Keys, Polyjuice potion and Butterbeer to drink…the details were endless. All of the girls (and one boy…my son) got to come home with their own spells books, wands, book mark, a feather pen, AND a Patronus charm necklace. The kids got […]

When Ariana (AKA Giffi) contacted me about taking engagement photos and including her sweet pups, Janie and Betty, I was so excited! Since we’ve moved to Charleston, we have made some great friends, including Ariana and John. It has been close to two years since I have taken engagement photos, but working with a great couple made me realize how much I miss it! I always tell my couples to be natural, make each other laugh…those candid moments tend to end up the favorites because it captures their love in an honest way. As always, picking a location for a Charleston photography session is fun because the options seem endless. We decided with the dogs, a more “nature” feel would be the best, so we headed to Daniel Island which has turned into one of my favorite spots for photos. Janie and Betty were great sports and were rewarded with […]
When Ashley, these girls’ sweet mama, contacted me almost in tears after multiple photography session attempts, there was no doubt I was going to fit them in during this fall busy season. She told me she has a 4 year old, 2 1/2 year old, and twin 18 month old girls…I was nervous and excited all at the same time! Super mom would be an understatement!! Not only did she have to get 4 girls ready for their photos in their adorable Well Dressed Wolf outfits, she also drove 2 hours to me! I offered to find a location to cut some of her driving time, but when I told her I have a permit for Boone Hall Plantation, she was immediately sold. And honestly…we couldn’t have had a prettier location with better light for this session! The plantation gives so many options for backdrops, but when I saw these […]
I am still so excited to have had the opportunity to team up with Rainey’s Closet for these luxury mini sessions in Charleston, SC. Unbeknownst to me, one of my clients is a ballerina and surprised me by bringing her point shoes along! Talk about jumping for joy!! Scout is one of those kids that is so fun to be around and incredibly sweet. She’s also a triple threat since she acts, models, and dances! I had her up on her toes a good portion of the shoot…I mean who doesn’t love ballerinas?! We chose Daniel Island as the location for this session as well. It’s such a beautiful area with a variety of looks within walking distance. It has quickly become one of my go-to locations for photography sessions. Cynthia was even admiring how beautiful it was and said she would love to move to DI if they ever […]
